Trigger Point Injections in Rochester, NY

When areas of a muscle contain trigger points, most commonly known as a “knot,” that area of muscle tends to cause pain because the tissue does not relax. These knots can be felt under the skin and may irritate nerves near it. The pain caused by trigger points can be deceiving, because it may cause discomfort in another part of the body depending on nerve location.

If you are experiencing muscle pain or tightness, Boev Clinic may be able to help. We pride ourselves on finding solutions to our patient’s pain issues. Call us today at (585) 342-2638 to find out how our specialists can provide an individualized treatment plan for you.

How a Trigger Point Injection Works

A small needle that contains a local anesthetic to numb pain is inserted into the trigger port. The needle then delivers a mixture of medication to make that area of the muscle inactive and reduce inflammation. This should allow the muscle group to loosen, and promote blood flow to begin the healing process.

The procedure should only take around 15 minutes and is often performed anywhere from weekly to monthly, depending on the severity of the issue and the response to treatment.

What are trigger point injections used for?

Trigger point injections are used to treat inflammation in your muscles, also known as myofascial pain syndrome. These trigger points are knots in the muscle fiber that can be felt under the skin.

Expected Results

The TPI procedure provides relief to many of our patients who are suffering from chronic muscle tightness. There may be some pain in the injection site once the local anesthetic wears off. Over the few days following the procedure, the inflammation in the muscle should gradually decrease.
